Knight of Cups (2015, Terrence Malick)

Like many others,at times I also tend to wonder about the life I'll be having in the next phase or so, simultaneously worrying about the contemporary lifestyle. Knight Of Cups felt like a palpable ride that somehow tried to console me. Overthinking often leads to the loss of control over one's mind, which subsequently follows an Absolute Despair. Losing oneself is pernicious, probably coz it's barely noticeable as convincingly stated by the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard.

Terry models the abstract of Hymn of the Pearl with his own version of it in Knight of Cups. Terry is not interested in spoonfeeding the answers, Knight of Cups follows a nonlinear narrative aligned with meaningful verses and meditative voice-overs, and a downright melancholic soundtrack. Terry however hints viewers at several instances at what he was looking to Imply in the first place. Knight of Cups is about faith, it's about the acceptance, acceptance of our actuality & suffering.

Fairly not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're somehow into it, it is remarkably rewarding. Knight of cups unlike Song to Song(which I reckon is his weakest) is profound and Brilliant considering both were directed devoid of any concrete script.

Maybe existential drivel to some, but Terry's undeniably a Genius. New perspectives might help to fathom Terry's notion, that Knight of Cups is a crafty experimental attempt at Existential Crisis that deserves to be reconsidered.

Knight of Cups, thematically, in essence, can be encapsulated with one of Soren Kierkegaard's quotes--

"Life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced."
