Sons of Anarchy (2008-14)
Rarely had I anticipated that I would be so inebriated by a Biker outlaw gang. Sons of Anarchy might not be flawless but the emotional wreck it exhibits in the final few seasons made me go blindspot on the deformities. Despite being predictable at times, Sutter stirs up his show in a congruous way encircling sympathetic portrayals of family and clan love, deception, sacrifice, infamy and carnage in a blend of lofty adrenaline outlaw action.
The first four seasons is perhaps the peak and then the pacing of the show kinda hinders a bit as everything gradually unravels giving hints of a Shakespearean tragedy. More than vengeance and love, the fairest aspect of the show is the sense of brotherhood that prevails the members of the club and it is brought to power by the alluring characters arcs through the subplots of lies, dual dealings and reprisal.
There's greatness written all over it, much of which goes to the credits of the actors. Katey Sagal as Gemma is undoubtedly my favourite performer of the show playing a caring yet highly unpredictable character. Charlie Hunnam as the protagonist Jax Teller is an intriguing personality and also the one we sympathize and care about the most alongside Tara portrayed to perfection by Maggie Siff. Ron Perlman indisputably has the best screen presence and has a blast every time he appears on the screen and is also the best actor in the show. The four of them forms the core of the show and is ably assisted by the remaining cast.
and Lastly, the freakin music. SoA boasts of a soundtrack like none other, ranging from Leonard Cohen to The forest rangers to Katey Sagal's version of "Bird on a wire".The music meticulously merges with the scenes especially the final swansong " Come Join the Murder" left me speechless and with a feeling of emptiness all around.
Thank You, Kurt Sutter.
