Taste Of Cherry(1997) | Abbas Kiarostami
"The night of the full moon don't y want to see it again? You want to close your eyes?"
The Portrayal on one such delicate sub-theme probably has had never been sincerely natural yet extremely thought-provoking and perplexing to quite an extent.
Taste of Cherry's opening sequence is beautiful. We're already inclined to follow the journey of our downhearted protagonist.
Mr. Badi's crestfallen not seeking sort of contentment but apparently driving his life towards "The End".
Kiarostami beautifully presents the two sides of the same coin, both of which lowkey makes sense.
The suspenseful ending subverts the expectations and augments it thematically to a whole new level.
Probably Mr. Badi was helplessly stuck in the dilemma, he wanted to taste the cherry, figuratively, vicariously seeking that cherry in life which would avert him from doing God's act of taking life, subconsciously he wanted to live life but alas the Pain outweighed his desire to subconsciously seek the reason to move on.
In essence, Kiarostami not only reassured us of the beauty of life in this 100 min narrative but subtly addressed how the unfortunate move can sometimes be inevitable...Or Perhaps, Mr. Badi was inexplicably revived. "Sometimes even to live is an act of courage"
